Bartleby's Beginnings
Zoey Bartleby started her first business, Conversation Peace in 1998
with humble beginnings, selling hand-painted furniture and handmade wood home decor at arts & crafts fairs, flea markets, and street corners.
We're a team of artists and creatives who love all things
art, building, creating, editing, fixing, and making.
We appreciate the beauty, style, history and value of vintage pieces,
and thrive in giving these pieces new life.
Our artists have diverse backgrounds in art and design,
and more than two decades of experience refinishing furniture,
DIY-ing, and obsessively arts and crafting!
So, we look at form, and we put the fun in function -
We update the outdated, and we also make and build new things.

About Us
Our Process
We source only quality vintage furniture and home decor and get to work . . . a lot of work!
Our process is extensive-from repairing and enhancing, to chemically stripping and sanding,
until we get a quality finished product that will last you for years to come.
We're not your average shabby-diy-furniture painting business.
We love shabby, lovingly worn, rustic pieces
and we offer these in our shop,
but we don't skimp on the finishing, fine-tuning, laborious process
that always ends with a protective topcoat,
not just bare paint or rubbed-in wax.
We respect our health and the environment by finishing our products
with only waterborne (water-based) paint, lacquer, and protective finishes.
We alternate between HVLP spraying to hand-painting, depending on the style of the piece.
We have a shop for finished pieces and unfinished pieces that we'll customize together to make your own!
We're here to help if you're not quite sure what colors or styles to choose!
Just email us or call us with your questions.
If you're within a stone's throw of our workshop and
you have your own piece you'd like updated, we can make it happen!
Wood Furniture Care Basics
Most of us have owned wood furniture, so all the common sense rules apply:
Disclaimer:
Our products are not factory-finished, and may have imperfections typical in vintage pieces and are not to be considered defects, but rather slight characteristics that add to its inherent charm. Since we make small fixes, patches and repairs to some of our vintage furniture, this process may slightly alter the appearance from its original factory form.
Additionally, we are not antique appraisers, experts or restorers, and do not specialize in this business. If you provide a piece of your personal furniture to be refinished, you accept that the refinishing process may affect the resale value of the piece if it is an antique, so, we encourage our customers to obtain this knowledge prior to working with us.
